MILT Residential School

MILT Residential School is situated at Old Vishnu Sadan, P.S. Simultala, Jamui District, Bihar – 813116. The school, started more than 20 year ago is run by MILT Foundation (Kolkata), a registered charitable trust. Simultala is a backward area with poor development and MRS is expected to act as a catalyst in improving education in that area. The children receive completely free education, accommodation, clothing, food, medical care etc. No fees of any kind is charged from these students or their surviving parent or guardians. MILT Foundation does not receive any government or foreign aid and the entire cost of running the school is met out of donations and sponsorships from well wishers.

The MRS campus, spread over 2 acres is located about 1½ km from Simultala railway station. It is a boarding school and has boy students from VI to XII standard, almost all from Snehalayas who join MRS in VI standard. The school has good infrastructure –classrooms, a library, computer lab, office rooms, prayer hall, two dormitories for students’ accommodation, common room with home theatre system, a dining hall, kitchen, staff quarters, a number of guest rooms and Aporesh quarters. MRS has good sports facilities – basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, table tennis, carom and chess.

MRS is an English-medium school that follows the ICSE syllabus up to Std VIII and NIOS syllabus thereafter. The infrastructure available is for 150 students. MRS puts a strong focus on all-round growth of the students, be it physical, emotional or spiritual. Strict discipline is enforced to facilitate high-standard, value based education. MRS has outdoor sports facilities such as basketball, football, cricket, volleyball, badminton and indoor games such as table tennis, carom and chess. The school provides quality vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food

So far nearly 40 children have completed Std XII and passed out of MRS. Some of the boys are pursuing higher studies while many have taken up jobs.

In early 2010 a free primary school was started at MRS for the local children with initial strength of 50 children that has now grown to about 90. Free mid-day meal, a snack in the morning and free uniform and school bag have been provided. The strength is to be upgraded to 100 in the next one year. This school has become very popular because it fills a genuine need of local people most of whom are poor tribals and are unable to afford good quality education for their children.
